Clinical Trials & Results for Nanotherapies Therapeutics

Nano therapy is a technique derived from nanotechnology, with improved drug solubility and half-life, and enhanced targeted delivery. The size of a nanoparticle ranges from 5 to 500 nm in one dimension. Several nanoparticles are being produced for medical purposes, such as nanotubes, dendrimers, liposomes, micellar systems, and polymer nanoparticles.

Some of the nanoparticles such as CYT-6091 and BIND-014 are currently in the clinical stages of development. The poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles are being formulated for the treatment of solid tumors. Other than medical purpose, the nanoparticles are also being used in imaging techniques, such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, blood purification techniques, sensing, and tissue engineering.

CytImmune Sciences Inc. is developing CYT-21000 as an immunomodulator for the treatment of solid tumors. Some of the companies developing nanoparticles therapeutic include BBS Nanotechnology Ltd. and Merrimack Pharmaceuticals Inc.
