How To Avoid Refrigerator Repairs?
A refrigerator is prone to repairs if not maintained properly or due to various other factors. Sometimes, getting it repaired might take a very long time, or you might have to get a new refrigerator altogether.
However, you can avoid repairs by taking simple measures that will not take more than 5 minutes to keep the refrigerator in good condition and maintain it. Here are a few maintenance steps that you can take to avoid repairs. You could always call up Refrigerator Repair Service Center in Hyderabad if you are not able to fix the problem yourself.
Clean the Refrigerator Condenser Coils
Clean the coils twice a year. Condenser coils are fixed on the back of the fridge or across the bottom. They cool and condense the refrigerant. When the coils are clogged with dirt and dust, they cannot release heat efficiently.
This results in the compressor working harder and longer than it was designed to, and uses more energy and shortens the lifespan of the fridge.
Clean the coils with a coil cleaning brush and a vacuum. A coil cleaning brush does a neat job. The refrigerator coil brush can bend to fit in tight areas. They can be used for cleaning the dehumidifier and air conditioner coils as well.
Clean the Refrigerator Condenser Fan
If the coils are situated on the bottom of the fridge, clean the condenser fan and the area surrounding it. (Fridges with coils on the back do not have a fan.) The fan throws air across the coils to help cool them down. At times, paper, dust, dirt, and even mice could get sucked into the fan and make it stop running at once.
Most refrigerators come with a diagram on the back or folded up under the front grille that shows the location of the major parts. While you are under there, wipe the drip pan clean, which is a flat pan that collects water from the defrost cycle and lets it evaporate.
Wipe Down the Refrigerator Door Gasket
Keep the door gasket clean by regularly wiping off all the particles that stick to it. To prevent it from wearing down, you could lubricate the door handle side of the gasket by sprinkling some powder on a cloth and clean it once or twice a month. Clean the Freezer Vents
The little vents on frost-free fridges allow air to flow freely in the freezer. You should not block them or let twist ties or crumbs get sucked in around the evaporator fan or clog the drain tube. To save energy, keep the freezer about three-quarters full to retain the cold air in the refrigerator. But do not pack it any fuller as it is important that the air circulate
Set the Refrigerator Temperature Controls to the Middle Settings
This step might not necessarily prevent a repair, but it will extend the life of the fridge by allowing it to run more efficiently, in turn, reduces your electric bill. Keep the temperature on moderate settings.
Clean and clear the Drip Openings
Drip openings allow the melted water from the defrost cycle to flow down to a pan fixed by the compressor, where it evaporates. Check the owner’s manual for its location on your fridge. On cycle-defrost fridges, a channel transfers the water to a tube in the food compartment.
On frost-free refrigerators, you could look for an opening in the back of the freezer or refrigerator or a small cap under the crisper drawers that covers a hole. If the drain opening clogs, water builds up under the crisper drawers and leak out onto the floor.
