Types of Mechanical Saws and their Applications

A saw blade is called a saw blade and is an essential part of the tool. Usually it is placed in handles or various types of housings in order to facilitate the work with it. Hand saws are sometimes equipped with one or two handles, and the saw blade can be mounted on a shank, but also stretched over a frame or bail.

The saw teeth can have various shapes, e.g. arched, wedge-shaped or square – they should be selected depending on the type of material being processed, the direction of the cut (lengthwise, crosswise), and the required cutting precision. To increase the durability of the teeth, they can be locally hardened or covered with tips made of very hard materials (cemented carbides). Differently from typical blades, the so-called circular saws that have blades (teeth) located around the circumference of a circle.

Saws standing new large and heterogeneous group. They can be divided depending on:

Types of blades used on:

– Circular saws, equipped with rotating toothed circular shaped blades (discs). They can be mounted stationary at a large table, but there are also mobile saws, only with a motor and a small table. Circular saws have a number of special varieties, e.g. miter saw, pendulum saw, arm saw, panel saw.

Application: for cutting wood, boards, plastics or metals. A circular saw cuts materials of various hardness and thickness depending on the drive power and the type of blade. The greater the motor power, the easier and smoother (without slowing down) cutting any material, even hard materials, can be.

-Frame saws, also called frame saws, their blades are mounted on a frame, they are mainly used for woodworking, horizontal and vertical cutting of logs.

-Chainsaws, their blade is a special chain with U-shaped teeth. They are among the most popular.

Applications: both professional and amateur, they are used for rough sawing, cutting shrubs, cutting branches, firewood – also used for carving.

– Jigsaws are saws with a short blade for cutting various profiles, e.g. in wood, metals or plastics. The appropriate saw blade is fixed in one point, it works with reciprocating movements.

– Band saws – they have a closed-circuit toothed band, stretched on 2 or 3 wheels, at least one of which should be a drive.

Application: for longitudinal, transverse or profile cuts (especially in an arc, with a radius depending on the width of the tape). The application can be similar whether you are using a scroll saw or band saw.

Work comfort, noise level, presence of fumes and dust are also important. For example, chainsaws will do the job quickly, but it will be necessary to use headphones to protect against high noise or to protect the respiratory system against dust and fumes.

To facilitate and improve the conditions of use of saws, it is worth considering purchasing tool bags with wheels and saw models with special amenities and functions. For example, additional functions of circular saws can be: a system of maintaining a constant speed, the possibility of connecting a bag to collect the generated dust or the use of sight glasses monitoring the cutting line.
